Save Your Old Memories.

A messy shoebox of old photos
Max, founder of Scan Squirrel

Hi, I'm Max. Those old photos in your shoeboxes and albums — along with your slides, negatives, and documents — fade a little more every year, and a fire can take them in minutes. I live on the Eastside. I pick them up, scan them, make them look amazing, and bring them back in about two days. It's about a dollar a photo, so most shoeboxes run around $200 — bigger or smaller, we'll work out a fair price. No surprises, and you don't ship anything to Tennessee and wait six weeks.

What I scan

What I scan

Thousands of photographs. Hundreds of slides and negatives. More documents and magazines than I could count. Each one's got its own page if you want the details.

Getting started

Let's connect

To get started, give me a call and tell me what you've got. Or we meet up and go through it together — simple as that. I'm always happy to offer free advice on any project if you just have questions.

About your Eastside Squirrel

I live on the Eastside, in Highland Park, and I love everything about it — the hills, the wildlife, and the incredible diversity packed into a few square miles. Here are a few of the things I love most.

The staircases

Hidden in the hills

Old public staircases all over the hills. A hundred years old, some of them, stuck between houses where you'd never think to look. My wife and I walk them. You go up what looks like somebody's private steps and pop out looking at the whole basin.

The wildlife

You just have to look up

Coyotes at dusk. Hawks over Mount Washington. Owls — you hear them before you ever see them. There's a hawk's nest near me I've been watching for a while now.

People think you've gotta leave the city for this stuff. You don't.

The reservoir

The reservoir

I love the Silver Lake reservoir, especially the dog parks.

The stadium

Right up the hill

Dodger Stadium sits right in the middle of all this, tucked in the hills between Echo Park, Silver Lake, and Elysian Park. Game nights you can hear the crowd from half the neighborhoods on this page.

The light

A different kind of warm

It gets hot here. He finds a warm patch on the floor and that's it for him for the day.

The fires

January 2025 changed everything

The Eaton and Palisades fires burned through neighborhoods just like ours. Families lost everything — including photos that can never be replaced. That's what made me start doing this. Most of us have a shoebox in a closet that would be gone in twenty minutes.

This is home

Your photos stay on the Eastside

Your photos came out of neighborhoods like these. Backyards, front steps, the reservoir, some kid's birthday in a Highland Park kitchen. Hand them to me and they don't get shipped across the country — they stay right here. I scan them and I hand them back.
